Defeating Final Fantasy XII Bosses

This is a walkthrough that will tell you how to beat all the bosses in Final Fantasy XII. It will give you the stats of the bosses and a way to defeat each one of them. The strategy that is used to defeat the boss is not the only way or maybe even the best way to do it, so you can try something different if you do not think the strategy you read will work for you. Hopefully this walkthrough will tell you what you need to know or at least give you information about the boss that you did not know before.

Firemane
LVL: 7
HP: 3571
EXP: 0
LP: 3
Steal: Potion, Phoenix Down, Grimoire Togail

After the door shut behind you Firemane will come into the room as a fireball and then changes to a flaming stallion. Firemane is weak against water but at this point in the game you probably do not have water magic so just attack Firemane with regular attacks. Do not use fire magic though and you may want to make your healing gambits a lower priority because you may end up healing instead of attacking. Firemane will occasionally teleport around the room so you have to find him and then start attacking again. Luckily you have Amailia to help you and she does a very good job with her potions and phoenix downs. That is really all you need to know about this boss and how to kill it.

Mimic Queen
LVL: 10
HP: 4073
EXP: 0
LP: 5
Steal: Knot of Rust, Storm Magicite, Rose Corsage

Mimic Queen will start the fight with Tiny Batteries helping it but you should just focus on Mimic Queen. Do not use Thunder spells on Mimic Queen or you will just heal it. You can use Ice spells like Blizzard to deal a nice amount of damage. You should keep one or two members of the party with a healing gambit first and then an attack gambit so you do not have to worry about anyone getting to low on health. You have Basch as a guest in this fight so keep him healed and the extra damage he dishes out will go a long way.

Judge Ghis

LVL: 14
HP: 4120
EXP: 0
LP: 22
Steal: Potion, Dark Mote, Jackboots

Judge Ghis can hit you hard especially with his big magic attack. Have some of your members with a healing gambit at the top slot for anyone who gets to 50% HP. Judge Ghis also has some swordsman minions but they are easy to wipe out first and then focus on Judge Ghis. You can try to use a Quickening to take out the minions and lower Judge Ghis HP. If you do want to do that just remember that it depletes you MP so you will have to heal with potions.

Garuda
LVL: 16
HP: 6754
EXP: 0
LP: 11
Steal: Gold Needle, Giant Feather, White Fang

When you start the fight with Garuda use the Eksir Berries that you have to drop its HP down 15%. Garuda is flying so you need to use ranged and magic attacks. Garuda is weak against water and thunder magic so use that to your advantage. Garuda will also cast Sleep on your party members so be sure you have something to wake them up like Alarm Clock.

Demon Wall
LVL: 16
HP: 10332
EXP: 0
LP: 9
Steal: Gold Needle, Solid Stone, Quality Stone

In the fight with the Demon Wall you have a time limit to defeat him. The amount of time that you have is until he crushes you against the far wall so be quick in this fight. You may want to have some party members with gambits heal the effects of Sleep and Blind so you do not have to waste any time. You may also want to disable the cure gambits you have set up and instead use items to heal since they take less time. Since you will not be using magic to heal go ahead and us your MP on a Quickening to lower the Demon Walls HP a considerable amount in a short amount of time. Demon Wall will also use the ability Telega which will banish one of your party members until you enter a new area and there is no way to reverse it in the battle. The only other thing you need to know about this fight is that touching a torch along the wall will either halt or speed up Demon Wall. So if you think you are lucky then touch the torches to see if you can slow or even halt the Demon Wall.

Vossler
LVL: 20
HP: 9318
EXP: 0
LP: 30
Steal: Potion, Hi-Potion, Black Belt

Vossler starts out with three minions so take them out first and then focus on him. Vossler will eventually cast Reflect and Haste on himself so you need to focus on combat more then magic attacks. Vossler has great combos and he is really fast so you may want to use a Quickening if you have one. In the fight Fran is berserk but that is fine since she will just beat the crap out of Vossler. When Vosslers HP starts to get critical he will get faster and stronger so be careful towards the end of the fight.

Tiamat

LVL: 25
HP: 49993
EXP: 0
LP: 15
Steal: Hi-Potion, Ring Wyrm Scale, Leo Gem

Tiamat has a strong defense and it gets even stronger when its HP drops to 20%. You may want to start the battle off with a Quickening just to get a chunk of the HP out of the way. Tiamat will mainly focus only on one party member at a time so as long as you make sure that one is healed you are fine. Do not forget to heal Larsa as well since he will heal your party with Hi-Potions and they are infinite in supply.

Elder Wyrm

LVL: 27
HP: 71692
EXP: 0
LP: 14
Steal: Succulent Fruit, Feystone, Emperor Scale

Elder Wyrm has two minions that you will need to kill first. Elder Wyrm does not really deal out big physical damage but it uses Slow, Blind, Silence, Sleep, Confuse, and Poison to compensate for that. You need all of your party members to have a gambit that with cast Esuna when a status effect appears. Elder Wyrm will also use Oil and then follow up with a Fireball for some considerable amount of damage. You may want to keep your party spread out so his status effects will not hit everyone at once. You may also want to use items to heal and clean up the status effects while you use the MP for a Quickening.

Vinuskar

LVL: 27
HP: 15138
EXP: 0
LP: 19
Steal: Knot of Rust, Thief’s Cuffs, Damascus Steel

This fight has a catch to it since there is a magnetic field making anyone who wears metal very slow. The only good thing is that Vinuskar is also very slow so you can hit Vinuskar multiple times before Vinuskar hits you. Vinuskar will also cast Slow on your party members so be sure to take it off right away. Vinuskar also launch Sword Dance once in a while. Once Vinuskar is at 50% HP you can use a Quickening and hopefully take it down in one shot.

Mateus

LVL: 30
HP: 34259
EXP: 0
LP: 27
Steal: Pisces Gem, Ether, High Arcana

The first thing you do in the fight with Mateus is to destroy the minions. Mateus will also cast Reflect on itself so magic will bounce back at your party. Once the minions are out of the way focus on Mateus and watch out for Sap. Mateus also uses Blizzaja but that is the only strong attack. So try to keep everyone distanced from each other to minimize the effects of Blizzaja and keep attacking to win.

Judge Bergan
LVL: 30
HP: 17200
EXP: 0
LP: 19
Steal: Hi-Potion, Ruby Ring, Ether

The fight will begin with Judge Bergan and his miniions so crush his minions first. Now focus on Judge Bergan who will cast Dark, Water, and Aero spells along with his combos that get faster and stronger as his HP gets critical. Keep everybody healed and keep attacking to defeat him. You do not have to worry about a super attack because Judge Bergan has none.

The Mandragoras
LVL: 37
HP: 9069
EXP: 0
LP: 5

In the fight with The Mandragoras they will start by scattering all over the place and you have to try to catch them if you want to hit them. This becomes even harder because they use Haste and you can hardly target or counter them. When all of them finally get together you can use a Quickening to damage them all at once. When they take damage they will scatter again and try to heal before returning for a counter attack. As long as you avoid fighting all five of them at once and just take them out one by one you should do fine.

Ahriman

LVL: 38
HP: 62149
EXP: 0
LP: 28
Steal: Sky Jewel, Death Powder, Maduin Gear

Ahriman likes to use the status effects like Doom, Confuse, Blind, and Sleep so be sure to have something to deal with that. Ahriman will also make replicas of itself although they die with one or two hits. Ahriman will cast Blizzara and when its HP is at 20% it will cast Maser Eye which will deal lots of damage. Ahriman will also teleport around the room so make sure you keep moving you camera to find it.

Dr. Cid

Helm Rook
LVL: 40
HP: 72989
EXP: 0
LP: 29
Steal: Knot of Rust, Hi-Potion, X-Potion

LVL: 38
HP: 9859
EXP: 784
LP: 5
Steal: Knot of Rust, Potion, Hi-Potion

In the fight against Dr. Cid there are four floating rocks that you must destroy first before attacking him. Once they area destroyed heal your party above 1000 HP and watch out for Dr. Cid’s powerful attack that will take lots of health out of you. The good thing is that all you have to do is get Dr. Cid’s health down low enough and the battle will be over.

Rafflesia

LVL: 43
HP: 73393
EXP: 0
LP: 31
Steal: Screamroot, X-Potion, Putrid Liquid

In this fight against Rafflesia there is a MP Drain Field so the first thing you need to do is use your Quickening since your MP will be of no use anyways. Rafflesia also throughs out a lot of status effects so be sure to have items to counteract any of the status effects. Also do not forget to switch your magic healing out with item healing. When Rafflesia gets low on HP it will summons three minions so destroy them and then focus on Rafflesia. You can also use Mirror Mail if you have it so you do not have to worry about the status effects.

Daedalus
LVL: 42
HP: 65644
EXP: 0
LP: 33
Steal: Storm Crystal, Forbidden Flesh, Damascus Steel

Daedalus is fast and it will cast Haste on itself to make itself even faster. So first set up a gambit that will dispel Haste. Daedalus only uses really fast combos and they get faster as its health goes down so you may also want to cast Haste on your party members so you will not be outmatched in speed. As long as you keep everybody healed you should be able to win with little to no problem.

Tyrant
LVL: 43
HP: 180428
EXP: 0
LP: 33

In the battle with Tyrant you can not use any technicks. Tyrant will also use Sap so be ready to use Regen or Esuna. Also you may want to have Protect and Haste on everybody. Tyrant will focus on one party member at a time but he will cause massive amounts of damage so keep everybody healed and be ready to raise some party members from the dead.

Hydro
LVL: 47
HP: 203800
EXP: 0
LP: 35
Steal: Maggoty Flesh, Corpse Fly, Wyrm Bone

The fight with Hydro is hard because it causes status effects like Doom and it will use Fearga which will drain your party members MP down to nothing. So make sure you have gambits for charge and syphon along with backup gambits that use items instead of magic. When Hydro gets low on HP switch out your party members to use a Quickening so you do not have to face Hydro during the last little bit which is a real pain.

Pandaemonium
LVL: 45
HP: 116678
EXP: 0
LP: 36
Steal: Ancient Turtle Shell, Aries Gem, Scarletite

Pandaemonium will start out with Shell and Protect so Dispel it. Beat Pandaemonium down until it is at 50% HP. At 50% HP Pandaemonium will cast Perfect Defense which will make Pandaemonium unable to take damage. You also have to watch out for Blind and Petrify. After the Perfect Defense goes down just keep attacking and you will win.

Slyt
LVL: 47
HP: 92661
EXP: 0
LP: 36
Steal: Yensa Scale, Pisces Gem, Yensa Fin

Slyt will begin the fight with Regen and it is pointless to dispel it because Slyt will just put it right back on. Slyt is weak against fire so use Oil and then a Fire spell to deal some damage. Slyt is not that hard and will fall pretty fast if you just keep attacking and healing.

Fenrir
LVL: 49
HP: 189992
EXP: 0
LP: 36
Steal: Beastlord Hide, Beastlord Horn, Behemoth Steak

In the fight with Fenrir cast Dispel to take off any status enhancers Fenrir has. Fenrir is weak versus the Earth-Element so use that to your advantage and watch out for Blind. Fenrir is basically a physical fighter so you do not have to worry about anything except healing and attacking.

Judge Gabranth

LVL: 47
HP: 64049
EXP: 0
LP: 18
Steal: Hi-Potion, X-Potion, Potion

In the fight with Judge Gabranth Dispel him and cast status enhancers on your party. You will then just need to keep your party members healed to win this fight.

Dr. Cid
Famfrit
LVL: 50
HP: 82093
EXP: 0
LP: 18
Steal: Hi-Potion, Ketu Board, Magepower Shishak

LVL: 52
HP: 149060
EXP: 0
LP: 52
Steal: Aquarius Gem, Elixir, High Arcana

In this fight with Dr. Cid just Dispel him and then attack him until his HP is at 50%. When his HP reaches 50% he will summon the Esper Famfrit. Focus your attacks on Famfrit because you can not really hurt Dr. Cid while Famfrit is alive. After Famfrit dies attack Dr. Cid with full force and you should be able to kill him with ease.

Judge Gabranth

LVL: 49
HP: 70719
EXP: 0
LP: 25
Steal: Hi-Potion, X-Potion, Elixir

In the fight with Judge Gabranth Dispel him and cast status enhancers on your party. The first part of the fight will be easy but when Judge Gabranth gets to 50% HP he will regain all of his health. Judge Gabranth will also launch a sword attack that will inflict 1000 HP worth of damage. So just keep your party members healed and you should do just fine.

Vayne Soldier
LVL: 50
HP: 76755
EXP: 0
LP: 0

In the fight with Vayne Soldier be sure to cast Dispel so you are not hit with 1000-plus damage four times before you get to attack. Also be sure to put status enhancers like Shell, Protect, Haste, and Bubble on every party member you have. Now keep everybody healed and keep all the status enhancers on to kill him.

Vayne Novus/Sephira
LVL: 53
HP: 104210
EXP: 0
LP: 0

LVL: 50
HP: 12121
EXP: 0
LP: 0

The first thing you do against Vayne Novus is to make sure everybody is healed up and has status enhancers. Then make sure you cast Dispel to get rid of any of his status enhancers. Then take care of the sword minions. Remember that you still have one more boss fight to go so go crazy with the elixirs and ethers. You can use a Quickening to take out the swords and damage Vayne Novus all at once.

The Undying

LVL: 55
HP: 228299
EXP: 0
LP: 0

This is the last boss you have to face so do not be shy and start off with a Quickening if you want and then use Megalixirs to get your MP back up. This boss has no HP bar but at 75% of his HP he will put up a barrier that will make him immune to physical attacks. At 50% of his HP he will put up a barrier that will make him immune to magic attacks. At 25% of his HP he will put up a barrier that will make him immune to both physical and magical attacks. When the first barrier appears use Scathe and Flare to get his HP down. When the second barrier appears cast bravery on someone and start hitting him hard until it gets to the third barrier. On the third barrier you just have to keep healing and wait it out. The Undying will also use area nukes and status ailments so be ready with Esuna or items that will cure any of the ailments. Make sure you keep everyone healed and keep your backup party ready incase you need to switch out your main party. After you defeat this guy you will have beaten the game.
